The exhibition of works by Hungarian and foreign contemporary artists deals with the European and North American culture of the 1945-1989 period, in order to present how the atmosphere of the Cold War era with its scientific facts, ideologies and apocalyptic visions has become a deep-rooted and inspiring source of artistic creativity and contemporary culture.
“Exact” scientific facts and precision-made, inanimate machines were fashioned through the prism of fantasy, artistic creativity, social tension, political ideologies and phobias with the sometimes optimistic, sometimes threatening or even apocalyptic vision of late Modernism.
By our day this myth has not faded in the face of the political changes of the past two decades and astounding technological developments, but rather it has become a profound and fertile breeding ground for contemporary culture. The age and culture of the Cold War are conjured up in videos, drawings and installations: scientific theories, visions of the future, happenings.
