Leo Fall: Madame Pompadour
A current story full of eroticism and politics, wonderful and catchy melodies composed by Leo Fall. Superb role opportunities, spectacular dresses, sceneries, choreography and direction.
The operetta takes place in Paris, at the court of King Louis XV. It was well-known, that this incapable and weak leader laid all of his energies into erotic adventures and flirting. The king had several lovers, and when her current concubine deceased in 1744-supposedly due to poisoning-Madame Pompadour followed her in the majesty's bed.
The king adored Madame Pompadour and always asked her advice on important state affairs. When the king goes for hunting, the Madame - accompanied by her faithful chambermaid - visits the notoriously infamous pub, "The Artist's Stable" in incognito. Count René d'Edstrades, who recently got married and ran off from home also resides in the pub, and hopes to find a real woman to spend a wonderful night with. So the two: the real woman, and the real man meet, and fall in love with each other. Meanwhile, the Minister of Police-with a little help from his best agent-is trying to catch out Pompadour and Count d'Estrades to blackmail the Madame...
